Opening Doors Within
Welcome back! I appreciate you and your support. You can still subscribe to my RSS Feed Thanks for visiting! Have an awesome day!
Did you ever look at “cloud animals” in the sky?
Ever create a spaceship out of an empty refrigerator box?
How about pretending you were a super hero or movie star?
What do these all have in common?
Imagination
Imagination is necessary to transform these thoughts into reality. Ok, ok, maybe not your ordinary reality, but reality none the less. As children, there are no boundaries on imagination. They can open the doors within their minds and tap into those creative forces. Whatever they can imagine becomes reality to them. The sky’s the limit!
Then, life happens…
As we grow older, boundaries and limits start to confine and constrict our imaginations. We’re told to quit day-dreaming, get our heads out of the clouds, grow up and face reality. Ouch! Our creativity is stifled, our imagination is cut short. There’s no place in the adult world for such frivolous things as imagination.
Well guess what? Nothing could be farther from the truth! How does that sound? Are you ready to open the doors within and re-discover your imagination and how important it is to your success in life?
An idea is an impulse of thought that impels action, an appeal to the imagination.
Napoleon Hill
Imagination is the secret ingredient for success. It transforms intangible thoughts into tangible reality by creating ways to accomplish things that have never been tried before. Thought impulses tap into the creative source – energy. Everything begins as energy, which becomes thoughts, which becomes reality through utilizing your imagination. Everything surrounding us today was the product of someone’s imagination. Things like cars, telephones, radio, airplanes, televisions, computers … the list is endless.
Most of us do not use our full capabilities in regards to our imagination. Combining imagination with belief, faith and desire creates new realities. Each one of us has the power within to transform our visions that we create into reality by utilizing this misunderstood tool – imagination.
Napoleon Hill explains that the imaginative faculty functions in two forms:
- Synthetic Imagination – the arranging of old concepts, ideas or plans into new combinations. This faculty creates nothing. It merely works with the material of experience, education and observation with which it is fed. Not very original or empowering.
- Creative Imagination – Through the faculty of creative imagination, the finite mind of man has direct communication with Infinite Intelligence. Through this, “hunches” and “inspirations” are received. This generates “think-outside-the-box” ideas. These ideas are above and beyond the normal way of doing things. Talk about empowering!
This creative imagination works automatically when the conscious mind is stimulated through the emotion of a strong desire. The more you use this faculty, the more alert and active it becomes. Imagination creates synergy and synchronicity flows from that.
I’ve already mentioned in past posts how important discovering your passion is. To achieve this vision, using your creative imagination is vital. You are navigating uncharted territories where coming up with unique, new ways to accomplish your dreams are necessary. If you are not experiencing the success you desire in your life, you need to tap into your creative imagination and create new solutions or strategies.
Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.
Napoleon Hill
So I challenge you to open that door within and allow your creative imagination to flow. It will help you in discovering the steps to your dreams and visions. When you feel stymied or stuck, take it to a higher level by using your child-like imagination. The universe is the limit!

I totally agree with you Val! When we grow up we tend to be more “practical” and settled in to our own little worlds. We all need to take out creative imagination for a spin once in a while:) Thanks for reminding us!

Glyna,
I like that – take our creative imagination for a spin.
Choosing not to settle in and get too comfortable with where we are is a great way to expand and grow.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts,

Great stuff, Val! So many people have been conditioned to suppress their imagination through “mainstream” training during their school years, and never give themselves permission to use their imagination to find what they’re looking for.
It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we give ourselves that permission and start using the imagination! There’s so much I learn from watching children!

Angie,
It is crazy how much our creativity has been held back by everyday living and fitting into the norm. Product of the Industrial Age that has not yet released it’s hold on society’s thinking.
Giving yourself permission is an awesome way to support creative imagination.

Tim,
Absolutely! Look at life through a child’s eye and believe that you can achieve anything that you want! A child does have the most open imagination.

I use to get notes sent home from my teachers all the time saying, “Nikki day-dreams too much.” Now, wait a minute, I automatically assumed this was a bad thing and so did my parents. This was the universe giving me a compliment. What strange, muddled language it uses to get through to us sometimes. Thanks for sharing this, Val. I intent to be Big!

Nicole,
I think many of us had similar experiences about day dreams and using our imagination. The Universe did not send muddled messages, our programs caused us to muddy the waters with our “expectations” and “rules.” LOL
Thank you for sharing this great insight!

Val – this blog reminds me of a question in one of the many profiles I have completed on the internet; What is the one superhuman trait you would like to have ?
My response was(still is): Imagination and I still have it – I can go anywhere, amytime, anyway I care to go with my imagination !
Thanks again Val for your wonderful “positive mental attitude” blog posts

This is a beautifully written post, Val. I couldn’t agree more that imagination (thinking outside of the box) is truly the key to success! It’s really fun to be in business with an almost 3 year old in the house …. his little mind is bursting with creativity and I feel like it’s re-awakening parts of me that have been dormant for years! So the trick then becomes, how to tap in to that child-like wonder when there are no children around?
Lots to consider. And yes, knowing your passions is the perfect place to start!
Oh, and last thing … I love that we both were writing about superheroes this week!

Thank you Beth,
I may not have a 3 year old to keep me up on imagination, but I have a friend who always thinks out-side-the-box and asks “why not!” This keeps me on my toes.
Superheroes never go out of style. I noticed the similarity while on your site!

Wow! Val, what an important post. As I child I used to act and my imagination went wild. Just as you said, it got squelched and I find it hard to get back that ability to visualize. I’m going to work on your suggestion to basically pretend I’m a child again and see what happens.
Thank you for this, as always, your posts are insightful, thought provoking, and so meaningful.

Hi Val,
It’s no wonder that so many adults are stuck living boring, fearful lives. It sometimes seems like there’s a conspiracy to take imaginative, wide-eyed children and take all that is good and innocent from them.
Imagination is key to our success and to the success of our humanity. I love the distinction that Napoleon Hill makes between synthetic and creative imagination. After recently reviewing this chapter in Think and Grow Rich I can’t help but keeping my focus on allowing creative imagination into my life. It’s all about being connected to our source (who I choose to call God), and being open to inspiration as we receive it.
Thanks for this great information, and for reminding us of the importance of imagination. Let’s spend more time encouraging imagination in others, rather than trying to discourage…

Napoleon Hill’s Book “Think and Grow Rich” is my all time favorite. I’ve been reading it since the 70′s. That book freed my mindset and I have been in my own business ever since. You have graciously captured the essence of what he says. I love this post! Thanks Val

What a perfect written post. It’s amazing how our creative imagination gets replaced by our synthetic imagination. We allow this to happen and we have the answers on how to reverse it. For those who truly understand what a creative imagination is and how to tap into it constantly have the upper advantage for making a successful career in anything they do.

Yet another impressive post! I understand that there is a new diagnosis of children that is called NDD – Nature Deficit Disorder. Imagine that! Due to video games and movies we now have a new disorder to medicate our children with. We are doing it to ourselves, which is likely why the words “Forgive them they know not what they do” are so important to our lives.
Your site is gaining so much ground my friend and your thinking BIG is the reason why! Lets catch up shall we?

I’ll go along with Glyna and say it’s time to give our imaginations a whirl!
We adults just tend to take life a little too seriously and fill our days with activities that turn into blatant chores and drudgery. Every day can meld into the next and before you know it, a year has gone by, and then another. Phooey on that!
